18 April: Uni Games Recap!

Hi everyone!

University Games 2008:

Over the last week we have had five teams competing in the 2008 University Games debating tournament. The tournament was amazing and much debating/drinking was done by all. While the competition was eventually won by Victoria University, Auckland won a number of awards worth mentioning:

- Max Harris was selected as a reserve for the New Zealand Impromptu Debating Team.
- Akif Malik received a 'Highly Commended' award.
- Qi-Shan Lim received a 'Promising Speaker' award.

On top of this, our two trainee adjudicators (Patrick Senior and Kate Mills) both accredited as national university level adjudicators!

On the topic of adjudicators, our own Jordan Ward and Desley Horton were selected to adjudicate in the final debate, an indicator of their experience (and in fact Desley was selector of the New Zealand team).
Special thanks to our other two adjudicators Amy and Chris Pearce, without whom we would not have been able to attend and to Kate for convening the tournament. I think I speak for everyone who was there when I say it was an excellent time!
