AGM THIS THURSDAY! Oratory Comp Results, Awards, More...

Hey everyone,

AGM THIS THURSDAY!

The moment you have all been waiting for is almost here... This Thursday, 6pm, in Stone Lecture Theatre we will be holding the 2008 Debsoc Annual General Meeting!

At the AGM you can expect:
- To receive annual reports from the Executive for 2008.
- To elect the Executive for 2009 (Democracy in action! Just like the American/NZ elections only with less voters!)
- To see the compilation video from Joynt Scroll (featuring Patrick Lilly!)
- To witness a few other surprises that are lined up
- To go out for a drink or two afterwards

As you can tell, the AGM is going to be off the hook, so be there at 6pm.

Note:
In order to be eligible to vote at the AGM you must have attended three debating meetings (i.e. Thursday nights or tournaments etc) and have paid your $5 registration fee. You can pay the five dollars on the night but you cannot count the AGM as one of your three meetings!

Debsoc Wins Amazing Prizes! People Celebrate!

Last weekend AUSA held the first annual 'Clubs Ball' which was Academy Awards themed. Debsoc was up for three awards and eventually won Cultural/Political Club of the Year and was runner-up for Supreme Club of the Year.

It was an amazing night with good people, good food, good drinks and good times. That sort of result isn't possible without the commitment of a lot of people like yourselves so thanks to everyone who has been a part of the Society this year!

SGM Was 'Special' and Oratory Competition Results:

For those interested, last weeks SGM was special as expected. The Debsoc now has a new Constitution that includes such provisions as 'First Year Representative' and Exec size of 8 members, the abolition of most portfolio positions (minus the President, VP, Treasurer that stay and the inclusion of 'General Member in charge of Women's and Minorities Affairs'). All other spots will now be 'General Exec Members'. A full copy of the new Constitution and a summary of all the changes will be available on the website once signed off by AUSA.

The Oratory Competition (held straight after) was just as amazing as last year. We had seven outstanding speakers and a guest judge from the National Business Review who was absolutely blown away by the quality of Oratory. In the end the results were:

1st Place: Akif Malik
2nd Place: Max Harris
3rd Place: Briony Bennett

Thanks to everyone who entered and came along, it was an outstanding evening.

Help Debsoc Get Stuff:

This Wednesday, 1pm in the main quad, AUSA is holding an SGM. Rumour has it (from solid sources) the Club that gets the most members along (so they can reach quorum) will be in store for a treat or two. This is a chance for the Debsoc to benefit from you just turning up in the quad, so please show up and listen, There's free booze and scooters to be won so it should be solid either way, but it would be great if we could take it out.

That's it from me, see below for something you might be interested in though, otherwise see you on Thursday for what promises to be our biggest night yet!
