Last weekend the Debating Society sent 8 teams down to Waikato for the annual 'Thropy' tournament. To my knowledge 8 teams is the largest squad we have sent for quite some time, so congratulations to all who attended!
Good times were had by all, with topics such as 'This house would abolish the minimum wage', 'This house would ban third-world doctors from migrating to the first-word' and 'This house would ban unvaccinated children from schools'. As usual when the debating was over, Auckland kept up our reputation of being the most social campus with some epic nights in the CBD.
After four intense rounds, two Auckland teams (Auckland Orange: Mark Zhu, Chuan-Zheng Lee, Jason Monigatti and Auckland Yellow: Arena Williams, Jesse Hart and Rupert Hall) plus two Victoria teams broke to the semi-finals.
Sadly, neither Auckland team made it to the finals, however we need pick up a number of individual awards:
