This email contains a wealth of information about a whole host exciting things including a Debsoc logo competition, BP Pro Am Finals, the NZ National BP Tournament and the Final Night Dinner so read on...
1) BP Pro-Am Finalists:
This Thursday sees the BP Pro-Am Final and also the last night of debating for the year! After three rounds of the BP style of debating we are in a position to announce the eight finalists.
Due to the number of teams who had to swap speakers in certain weeks there are three fairly consistent teams who performed strongly and break together and the fourth team is made up of two individuals who, although with changing partners at times, performed strong enough to break on the fourth team.
As such, our finalists will be:
Ed and CZ
Olga and Briony
Lee-Lon and Simone
Arena and Aritra
2) This Thursday more generally:
The BP Final moot will be announced at 6:10 with the debate starting at 6:40. We encourage you all to come along and watch along with our three judge panel.
Following that debate we'll be offering our teams attending Worlds an opportunity to practice as well and (if we have enough judges) a change for anyone else to jump into a debate too. If we don't have the judges you can either head to shadows or stick around and watch the pros debate.
Either way it will be huge so come along.
3) NZ BP Open Tournament:
Is an annual tournament held in Wellington and hosted by Vic Debsoc. This year it will take place from 28 Nov - 30 Nov. There will be four prelim rounds on the Saturday and then one final prelim round, semis and the final on the Sunday.
The tournament this year is being sponsored by the New Zealand Business Roundtable, an organisation comprising major business firms committed to contributing to the development of sound public policy for New Zealand. Their significant financial contribution to the tournament means we'll be able to provide awesome food, bar tabs and functions this year.
Registration will include lunch on Saturday, dinner on Saturday night, a cooked brunch on Sunday, a cocktail reception after the Grand Final, and functions on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday night.
There is no team cap so we can send as many teams as we want! For this tournament you organize your own partner so there will be no trials. If you want to come just send us an email (if you haven't already). Also, any questions, just ask
4) Final Night Dinner:
If you haven't already, please RSVP if you'll be coming to end of year dinner, this Friday 24 October 7pm at Mai Thai. $25 gets you a solid meal, free corkage and a promise of some of the best times of the year!
5) Debsoc Logo Competition:
The Deboc is contemplating a few changes to our logo as we head in to 2009. A new modified logo would be used on the websites/slides/letters and so on as the current one already is. No doubt there are a number of budding graphic designers among our ranks so if you're looking for a way to give back to the Debsoc then drop us a reply to this email and we'll send you further details. We'll be looking to have this locked in sometime in the next six weeks so if this sounds like you then we're keen to hear from you. If your design is the one ultimately selected they'll be some sort of (announced and undecided) prize.
